Meet the Team

Rachel Sedgwick

At the start of 2022 I met Kara and by summer, Make Play was born. The following year we quit our jobs and haven’t looked back since.

This is my dream job! After graduating from arts school, I spent over a decade working as a primary school teacher and some of that time as a Senco too. I love working with children and I love people. During that time I realised that my main interest wasn’t in the classroom, it was working closer with children that thought a bit differently and found school challenging.

Now I work as an artist as one half of Make Play. My favourite parts are coming up with ideas for new projects, getting to spend a lot of time crocheting and using a glue gun and working with children. None of our projects are the same, I love the variety we get to experience and feel lucky everyday that I get to do this with Kara.

Kara Jarrold

I met Rachel at the start of 2022 when I’d recently moved back to Ipswich but was still working in London.

I loved my job managing a busy national arts team and working with some amazing artists and organisations who were all passionate about access to the arts. I loved always having to think outside of the box, coming up with new creative pathways for people who hadn’t engaged in the arts before or experienced the world differently.

I learnt so much during this time and came to realise that I didn’t just want to make the good stuff happen, I wanted to be part of the action! When Rachel and I started talking, we realised we both wanted a job that would encompass the things we loved - connecting with people, making, variety, creative chaos, getting stuck in — and voila, Make Play was born!

As an artist and the other half of Make Play I get to spend my days coming up with ideas, making bonkers things and meeting brilliant kids and families. What a dream come true! I love the variety of my job and I feel so lucky that Rachel and I get to do this together.
